As a contributor on a recent radio show, I was asked my take on this rapidly developing Corona Virus dubbed COVID-19. It is actually SARS-CoV-2. Let me start out by saying that Corona Viruses are not new. They are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).
SARS-CoV was created in November 2002 and continued to infect through July 2003. This outbreak of SARS in southern China caused an eventual 8,098 cases, resulting in 774 deaths reported in 17 countries (9.6% fatality rate), with the majority of cases in mainland China and the humid environment of Hong Kong. In late 2017, Chinese scientists traced the virus through the intermediary of civets to cave-dwelling horseshoe bats in Yunnan province. Bats were taken from the cave and transferred to the Wuhan Institute of Virology facility. No cases of SARS have been reported worldwide since 2004.
Suddenly, in 2019, a derivative of the SARS 2002 outbreak was found in a human in WuHan, the very home of the Wuhan Institute of Virology where the 2002 outbreak was being studied and the infected bats were being tested which included Human Testing. Named SARS-CoV-2 after is parents, The new virus has since been renamed COVID-19 as to not implicate its predecessor or the Chinese lab that created the deadly morphed version.
The new virus, released in a market a few blocks from the Institute, proved deadly to the frail and elderly, and began spreading at an enormous rate.
For 35 years from 1980, China forbade parents from having more than one child, to control a booming population. The upshot is there are now far older people than younger – an imbalance set to worsen further in coming decades. The working age population is shrinking dramatically: in 2010, there were about five Chinese taxpayers for every senior citizen; by 2030 there will be two. In 15 years, 400 million people will be over 60. Caring for them will be enormously costly.
COVID-19 began spreading across china like a wildfire weeding out the frail and elderly who were no longer able to work. A friend from WuHan reported to me that bodies were piled up and burned. People were falling over in the streets unable to breath, suffering from unattended acute respiratory failure. He estimates that tens of thousands in his district of the city were lost. Yet the Chinese controlled the numbers being reported. Black smoke could be seen rising outside the boundaries of the city.
Had China found the answer to their aging population issue?
As the world looked on, governments began paying attention to the solution China had found. Countries around the world were beginning to feel the economic pressure from a group of citizens who were either too frail to work or were aged into retirement drawing government funded pensions.
Spain, Italy, both facing economic difficulties. However, by conveniently ignoring the need to contain the virus, they too have enormous numbers of dying frail and elderly.
Other countries looking on and allowing international flights from contaminated countries to land checking passengers with a thermometer for a virus, that once contaminated takes a on the average 11 days to show symptoms. The virus spreads in those countries proving fatal for the sick and elderly. Many who are not aware of underlying an disease are taken also.
Governments, in an attempt to quell concerns of their citizens begin a 14 day “Shelter in Place” knowing full well those 14 days represented nothing in slowing down what they have effectively begun. But it gives the Government the opportunity to compartmentalize information and keep from the public anything that they consider causing jeopardy to their plans to depopulate.
The next step they will take is to increase quarantine times and make “Shelter in Place” mandatory stating the increased dangers. Finally the state of emergency locking down inhabitants of targeted areas.,
The stage is now set. Bodies of the dead are burned stating the need to kill any lingering virus. Funerals are not allowed due to the mandatory quarantines. How many have really died at this point would be very difficult to report, thus a government generated number.
And finally the announcement of a lingering contagion with no end date or eminent vaccine continues the ability of very strict government controls on it populace
